It’s a divine feeling when you take anything from idea to real-life existence.
Just this weekend, one of my clients sent me the character cards for the light novel I had ghostwritten for him.
He wanted to know if he had nailed the vision of the character as I had it in my mind’s eye and in the character development file.
I was blown away by the accuracy of that character in the illustration. But most of all, I felt warm inside seeing something I had as a mere thought in my head brought to such a colorful existence.
Even this website you're on right now. I remember all the early mornings I spent crafting the copy. When the copy was ready, I shared my expectations with the designer I hired and waited patiently for the turnout. Again I was blown away, seeing the manifestation of those thoughts and my copy in action.
I’ve witnessed that when each of my clients reads their stories, this is how they feel as well.
You too can experience this, when you finally get around to creating that thing.
Initially, I wanted to write this article to explore the joys of creating. But then I remembered that there are so many out there who have never once let their ideas see the light of day.
If you’re used to creating, you might not realize the amount of willpower that is required to create anything.
You first have to fight your own self — quell your own self-doubt before beginning the battle of taking the necessary steps.
I’ve had many ideas live and die in my head for lack of the willpower.
So, as someone who has been on both sides, here are my tried-and-true tips for taking your visions (whatever they may be) from just a thought in your head to a tangible real-life thing you can be proud of.

1. Write it down
There’s power in writing things down. Whether you’re using the notes app on your phone, Google Docs, or a pen and paper, putting your ideas into words gives them life.
They become their closest to reality when you can articulate them.
They also somehow get imprinted in your mind’s eye. You’re suddenly unable to forget them like you normally would; such is the power of writing your thoughts.
2. Think or research a plan
Now that you have the idea written down, what are 3 steps you can take to start developing that idea into something real? For example, if you wrote down your vision for a new business, 3 steps to start developing this business idea can look like;
Researching about the industry, existing businesses like it, or more info around it
Researching what it takes to start this business
Thinking up name options
Once you have your 3 things, spend at least 15 minutes daily on one of them.
3. Take the fastest way out
Over the years, I’ve brought several things on my idea list to life. And I noticed I could do this by changing one thing about the way I usually approached my ideas.
I got help from those with far more experience.
The fastest way to create your vision is to get help. Old me would spend months trying to do all the steps myself, and somewhere along the line, it just wouldn't work.
Then, I would burn out and drop the whole thing forever.
But since I started taking the fastest way by hiring those who could help my idea see the light of day, I’ve been able to create more.
You can be the originator of an idea, but you don’t have to be the executor.
Hire that consultant, designer, assistant, animator, writer, whatever you need to start.
In conclusion…
I didn’t add a step that says ‘validate your idea’ because to me all ideas are valid. You just need the courage to see it through.
Once you start creating, you can hardly stop. The dopamine boost of seeing your ideas alive and well somehow unlocks an oiled machine of endless creation.
You get into your own rhythm of making visions live, and you are stuck with it.
So start now. Manifest your first idea.
