If there’s one thing watching anime or reading manga will do to you, it's inspire you to tell your own stories.

Nothing beats the feeling of being able to create your own world of magic and possibilities.

But many times, you quickly realize that having an idea you love is one thing, and developing it into an actual existing manga or graphic novel script is another.

This is when you start to consider hiring a manga ghostwriter who can help bring your story idea to life. And if you’re wondering where to find not just any script writer but the right one, read on.

In this guide, I’ll show you where to find the right manga ghostwriter, what to look for before hiring one, and how to determine whether you actually need a ghostwriter, a story developer, or a manga script writer for your idea.

What even is a manga ghostwriter?

It’s two words coming together as one. First, a ghostwriter is an anonymous creator who develops and writes a story for a client. When you add the manga part, a manga ghostwriter develops and writes a manga script for a client.

It is a completely legal and normal thing to do that has existed for the longest of time.

Many great works you see today were written by ghostwriters.

How to know I need a ghostwriter for my manga story.

Asking the question is already a sign you need a manga writer to help build your story idea into a manga script.

Here are some other ways to know that you would benefit from getting professional assistance for your awesome story idea:

1. You tried to develop and write your story but couldn’t

This comes down to several things. Maybe you don’t have the writing skills necessary to craft a good script. Maybe you can do a manageable job of writing, but fleshing out your plot, worldbuilding, power systems, original naming, or character development is where you’re stuck. The bottom line is, you tried, but you keep drawing a blank.

2. You don’t have the time to write

Some people think ghostwriting is only for first-time authors or people who simply can’t write a story. But that’s not true. Seasoned authors, creators, and celebrities use ghostwriters too. And their reasons often fall into the bucket of time. When you don’t have the time to write the story idea in your head, you could use a professional ghostwriter.

3. You want your story written to perfection and professional standards

If your goal is to publish your own manga, win a contest, sell your finished comic book, or other reasons that require a well-written script, and your drafts are not as good, you could use a manga ghostwriter.

Once you’ve decided you need to hire one, it’s important to know what to look for.

What to look for when hiring a manga writer for my story

The whole point of hiring a manga scriptwriter is so they can bring your vision for your story to life.

To do this, such a person needs to have professional experience as a writer for graphic novels, plus as a manga or anime story writer. Because these works are different from regular fiction.

This, by default, means they have to be someone who watches, reads, and loves anime, manga, or comics.

Now this is a broad view; let’s help you narrow it down to finding the right manga story writer for you.

1. Professional scriptwriting experience

Look at who they have worked with and what kind of work they've done. You can do this by requesting to see a portfolio. You can ask or check how long they have been a ghostwriter, because longevity is a good sign.

Ask if they have done any projects similar to yours. The similarity could be in the amount of work you require, the genre, or anything that at least gives an indication that they are experienced enough to understand and capture your story’s vision.

2. Fantasy story development experience

In the world of manga or comics, anime, and graphic novels, story development is king. And it often includes expansive worldbuilding, power system development, deep character development, and creative plot fleshing.

Ask or check if the ghostwriter you’re considering has extensive professional experience in this area. It should be included in their portfolio if possible.

3. Clear Process

Having great writing skills and a creative brain well-versed in fantasy story development is important, but a clear process is almost more vital.

The process is simply how they work. The best manga writer to hire is one with a clear structure of work. This includes a clear timeline, steps in their process that you can follow, and all of this made known to you at the start.

You don’t want to hire someone and still have to carry uncertainty about how they are handling your project.

4. Policies and documentation

A professional manga script writer should have clear, established policies and documentation. These can include policies on revisions, NDA/confidentiality, payments, and so on.

5. Reviews

This goes without saying, but make sure to check what other clients have said about working with them.

6. Knowledge and passion for anime and manga

This is the main ingredient that brings everything together. Manga, anime, and comics are a different world even under the umbrella of fiction. The storytelling style, power systems, worldbuilding, and character development we see in manga and anime are very different from those of any other work of fiction.

This is why, if you are looking to create a manga or anime story of your own with the help of a ghostwriter, they must know and love this world. That is how they can help bring your vision to life.
